Four of my assets for the Environment design project

Round of applause for our sponsors

These are some assets I did for the environment scene.

They were all made through Maya, as I prefer the software for more up-close smaller object modelling, with the Uv's also grabbed in Maya and then they were taken into Substance 3D Painter to texture. Usually, I like using Procreate for the textures because I feel I can more freely choose the detail I want, as I am drawing it.

Using Substance 3D Painter for these models was new to me, but interesting. The textures and materials I found in Substance made the texturing process more of a learning curve for me and allowed for a more realistic looking finish on the models.

Small hanging lamp:

This asset was hung up outside the restraint to be used as lighting. I wanted to somehow get a glow effect coming from the white boxes of the lamp where the light would be coming from but ran out of time. The modelling of this object is very simple, but it didn't need to be complicated, and it made for an effective texture when laid on top.

Seating for a restaurant balcony outside:

This asset was used as outdoors seating for the restaurant in my environment design. Because it's outside I knew the textures needed to be materials that won't get damaged by the weather and elements but have a comfortable seat, hence the metal frame and legs and then the cushioned leather for the seats and tabletop.

Stool for a bar:

The textures on this model came out nice and allowed me to practise with Substance Painter. The brushed metal texture is the same for the bottom of the stool and the top half, but with the top darkened. Experimenting with Substance's tools was a lot of fun and it was so easy to create my own textures and materials.

Indoors restaurant seating:

Unlike the seating for outside the restaurant, this seating is inside and so using more indoor textures, like cloth instead of leather for the cushioning and marble/stone for the tabletop. The restaurant is in a busy location, so I thought it made sense for it to look a bit classy, hence the flowers, marble, and nicer booth chairs. I liked having to think about the textures and materials I used like that.
