A collection of three game environments which are currently in my portfolio. These were all made during my final year at Champlain College.

Hi, I'm Olivia DiPrizio, soon-to-be graduate from Champlain College's Game Art program! These three environments are pieces that I've completed over the course of the past seven months and represent the result of four years studying game development and game art. With each piece I pushed myself to learn something new, whether it be working in a different style or incorporating new programs into my pipeline.

Everything in these environments is created by me unless otherwise specified.

Victorian Night

When I began this project, I knew I wanted to make something that had a strong atmosphere and a heavy use of environmental storytelling. I also wanted to assemble something modularly, an important skill which I had not yet showcased in my portfolio work. When I found the concept "Victoria night" by 夜猫子进宅 on Artstation, I knew it would be the perfect starting point for what I wanted to work on!

While working on this scene, I gathered a lot of reference and inspiration from The Order: 1886, Assassin's Creed Syndicate, and Dishonored. I began by blocking out the layout and buildings of the original concept piece before going on to add my own props and fill up the center of the road to create a more defined focal point. My favorite part of this entire project was making all the signs and posters scattered around - getting to dive into some graphic design was a nice break from modeling and texturing.

Assets modeled in Maya and Zbrush, textured in Substance Painter/Designer, and assembled/lit in Unreal 5. Foliage and grunge decals are Megascans, and a few graphics I used in posters are from Adobe Stock.

Twilight Street

I tend to create more realistic art, so for this project I decided to push myself out of my comfort zone and try something more stylized. I'd never created a stylized environment before, but was inspired by Sylvain Sarrailh's Twilight Street concept on Artstation, and I'm extremely happy with how my interpretation turned out.

I experimented with lot of new things when making this environment, like painting a custom skybox, creating foliage, utilizing normal decals, and working from an existing concept. There was a lot of trial and error involved with working in a new style, but I definitely learned a lot. For a more detailed breakdown on my process with this piece, check out the blog post I wrote here on The Rookies: https://discover.therookies.co/2024/03/06/a-beginners-guide-to-a-stylised-workflow-in-unreal-5/

Assets modeled in Maya and Zbrush, textured in Substance Painter/Designer, and assembled/lit in Unreal 5. I used brushes from Devin Elle Kurtz's Foliage and Grass Brushset to create my foliage.

Painter's Studio

Originally, I completed this project back in October 2023. It was my first interior environment, and though I was happy with it at the time, I wanted to revisit it to reflect my current skills. With this second iteration, I made a handful of new props to scatter around the scene as well as touched up some of my older props. I also added a different image to the main canvas and completely redid the lighting.

I'm much happier with this project now, and I really love the overall atmosphere I was able to create. I had a lot of fun with all the little details, like the props and posters/photos scattered throughout the scene. It's really rewarding to have turned this project from something really lacking to something I can be proud of!

Assets modeled in Maya and Marvelous Designer, textured with Substance Designer/Painter. Assembled and lit in Unreal 5. The HDRI backdrop is from PolyHaven, foliage and grunge decals are Megascans, and paintings are from Adobe Stock.
