Desolate - RIG.B FX Entry

The year is 2077, humanity's search for a new home takes them to the desolate planet of Titan. RIG.B, mankind's greatest invention, is sent on a mission to examine Titan. However, the question remains whether it will be able to return safely.

Radar 

It's been a while!

I tried several different effects, but none of them worked out. Eventually, I settled on using a hologram effect that displays the surrounding environment. 

I've also worked on the shield FX, projectiles and various other secondary effects but I think my next entry will be the final render composited together.

Rock Scattering

Heightfield scatter node to scatter rocks for some extra details.

Volumetrics

Creating volumetrics using VDBs. Due to resource constraints had to sacrifice some detail. Render time has drastically increased so I might experiment with Karma to see if it renders any faster.

Next step would be to work on the 'radar' effect. 


Update - 19 Feb 2023

Environment Setup

I'm starting of with a basic heightfield setup to be used as the environment. Didn't spend too much time on the heightfield as I'll be adding volumetric effects and low lighting. The heightfield is just some noise nodes with a few erosion passes. Created a basic texture using COPS.

Robot Shading

Applied basic presets to the body. Added emission to the eyes to create a sort of glow but I might experiment with creating a 'flashlight' effect. Separated out the axe and bag for now to see if I can do something interesting with them.
