Round of applause for our sponsors

We first began by exploring the character designs for Cat and Rock, and their relationship towards each-other and their island.

(Character Concepts and Colour work by Bhavya Sanjeev; Prop Design by Ryan Oti)

Our initial animatic and previs was where we started to solidify the story, though it was initially quite different compared to our final film.

Miguel Monteiro then brought Rock to life, and we started to develop the island.

(Rock Model by Miguel Monteiro; Rock Rig by Abigail Makoto Wilson; 3D Environment and Props by Skye Hill)

We then got to our respective animating - with Bhav and Ryan on 2D animation, and Lucy Cole, Abi, and Saphron Barley on 3D animation.

Ryan and Skye also worked on developing the Blender shader for Rock that made use of toon shader techniques and outlines to allow Rock to mesh a little better with Cat.

For the most part, we used image planes in Blender to bring Cat and Rock into the same  3D world - it also allowed us to project the lighting of the scene onto Cat.

All we had to do, then, was to finalise lighting and animation, and render it all out.

We had a ton of fun (and pain- but we're not mentioning that ;D) making this film, and learnt a ton as a team - Thank you for giving us the opportunity to present CATROCK to you!!
