Round of applause for our sponsors

"Tungkod ng Duwende" is a Filipino phrase that translates to "Elf's Cane" or "Elf's Staff" in English. In Filipino folklore and mythology, duwendes are supernatural beings or elves that are believed to dwell in the earth or in mounds of dirt. They are known for being mischievous but also can be helpful to humans if treated with respect.

The "tungkod" or cane/staff associated with duwendes is often portrayed as a magical item that helps them navigate or perform their mystical tasks. It symbolizes their connection to nature and their ability to influence human affairs subtly.

In modern contexts, "Tungkod ng Duwende" could also be used metaphorically to refer to something magical, mysterious, or connected to Filipino folklore and culture.

Here is the workflow process for creating this prop.

Gathering References with PureRef.

Blocking Out and Sculpting the High-Poly Mesh with ZBrush.

Retopology and UV Mapping Using Maya Tools.

Baking and Texturing in Substance Painter.

Below is a detailed breakdown of the process:

Celebrating my 6-month milestone in 3D art is a significant achievement for me. This journey has been filled with countless hours of learning, practicing, and perfecting my skills. I am immensely grateful for the success of my first portfolio piece, TUNGKOD, which marks Portfolio 01 - Props.

Creating TUNGKOD has been an enlightening experience. It began with gathering references using PureRef, ensuring that every detail was well-researched and authentic. I then moved on to blocking out and sculpting the high-poly mesh with ZBrush, a process that required precision and creativity. The retopology and UV mapping phase, using Maya tools, was meticulous, laying the groundwork for the texturing stage. Substance Painter played a crucial role in bringing the prop to life, allowing me to bake and texture it with the necessary details.

Rendering the final piece with Marmoset Toolbag was an exciting step, as it allowed me to see my work in a polished form. Finally, post-editing in Photoshop and DaVinci Resolve added the finishing touches, enhancing the visual appeal of TUNGKOD. This project not only showcases my skills but also represents my dedication and passion for 3D art. I look forward to continuing this journey and creating more pieces that reflect my growth and creativity.
