Unreal Writers Room

This environment style was inspired by Genshin Impact, more specifically the libraries in the game.

My main focus of the scene was to create a scene filed with environmental storytelling inspired by a video on Mise-en-scene By Aram Atkinson regarding visual storytelling, I wanted to use lighting compositions and symbolism to infer what kind of character would be using this room. 

With the desk being lit with a blue light beam  from the stained window infers it is a place of focus and calm, whereas the fireplace is lit with a warm toned orange representing warmth and safety. Perhaps a visual representation of how a character perceives this place. 

Not only this but the choices of symbols for the artwork on the window, woodworks and rug. Inspired by my own cultural heritage with the window being a head of a Carabao. An animal representing resilience, fertility and prosperity along with a lot of other meanings such as hard work in the Filipino culture. The rug with a sun on it represents Positivity but also loneliness along with freedom/enlightenment as well. And the flowers being Amaryllis, Associated with passion and love.

Dark Temple Lighting Study: 

During my time in masters I developed a love for creating custom lit scenes for environments I found from Unreal market place. By using uncharted concept art I found on Art Station as well as using other lighting artists work as inspiration. I created this lighting study:

My main area of focus with this scene was to understand how to balance, directional light, volumetric cloud sky atmosphere with point lights and not focus on adding too many lights within scene.

Castle Lighting Study:

Another lighting setup I made was Inspired by assassin's creed 2. I wanted to see if I could create a similar affect of a misty sky while also not blurring the whole scene with fog. Another reason I did this scene was to  specifically focus on directional light, sky atmosphere and Fog, to see if I could  create a strong composition with just a basic lighting setup.
