Realtime VFX - Necromancer Spell

This effect was made as part of Lee Kisong's course on Coloso. The goal was to make some projectiles that I then turned into a powerful necromancer spell !
Realtime VFX - Necromancer Spell
I made this piece after following Lee Kisong's course (Former Lead VFX Artist on Lost Ark) on Coloso. The goal of the course was to make a simple magic spell projectile which I then turned into a Necromancer spell.
Initial projectiles
I started by working on the initial 6 projectiles by following the course and then changing 2 of the 3 textures of the trails to my own.
Skull projectile
The animation pack I used to give context to this effect had this really cool animation in which the mage seemed to charge up some magic orb. Since I wasn't satisfied with only the initial 6 projectiles, it gave me the idea to create a second part to this effect that would serve as a climax.
For this second part, I used the previous knowledge from the course to create a bigger projectile, this time in the shape of a skull. I used different trail textures and added smoke coming out of the skull to make it clear that this is the most powerful part of the spell. I further emphasized it in the explosion by adding a skull-shaped smoke to make it look like the soul used for making this spell is screaming.
