Stylized Game Art 2023-2024

I am excited to participate in the Rookies competition. This is part of my personal 3D project, an attempt made while learning the full process of 3D game art.

Round of applause for our sponsors

This is my first attempt at a full-process 3D character creation as a personal project. Although it may look somewhat immature, it is still my favorite piece, and I love it very much. During its creation, I learned a lot about 3D production techniques.

Original Spore Bed

The background story of this monster centers around a male Mycologist. He cultivated a powerful fungus but unfortunately became infected with the monstrous fungus he had nurtured.

The design principle of this creature is based on Mutating the human body with the central focus on the head, Gradually reducing the middle torso, and preserving only the limbs for mobility and the mouth for feeding, we refined the design and optimized any unclear or unsuitable aspects for 3D production.

Moving forward, we delve into the digital sculpting process using ZBrush. Subsequently, the character is imported into Maya to repo.

we keep the polygon count low, around 9,000 to 10,000.In Substance 3D, the character receives texture mapping. we address a challenge – maintaining the damaged head's appearance while avoiding texture clipping. We employ transparent textures to overcome this issue.

Terraflynde: Bonda

In ancient times, a cataclysm submerged land, causing ancient creatures to perish.

A huge being trapped on dwindling land faced scarcity and swiftly perished.Damp conditions accelerated its decay, attracting miniature insects to decompose it.

As stability returned, the remains solidified, and tiny organisms settled, developing civilization from this ancient catastrophe.

These tiny residents refer to themselves as "Terraflynde," signifying

"wingless/ground-traversing flyfolk" in their language.

In our designs, we conceived concepts inspired by green-headed flies and other insects.

The multi-legged features of the fly and the bristle coverage on the body were retained, while some changes and adjustments were made to the mouth needle and compound eye unique to the fly

The addition of multiple legs complicates the character's skeletal rigging, making it slightly more intricate compared to standard rigging.

However, utilizing Blender's straightforward skeletal rigging and ZBrush's mask masking feature, we can segment the model into the main body trunk of the T-pose and additional arm models for separate adjustments and editing.

The rendering process in KeyShot primarily focuses on enhancing texture, while the detailed sculpting work is mainly accomplished using ZBrush.

Howling Cliff

The world view is consistent with Terrflynde, which is the environment where bonda resides. Due to limited personal time, this project is relatively simple.

we've decided to leverage Unreal Engine's built-in water assets.

This choice stems from two considerations: firstly, the rendering environment in Maya doesn't faithfully represent the model's final effect in real scenes;

secondly, we aim for a more realistic, interactive portrayal of oceanic elements rather than static background settings.

The production method of the water body refers to the Fluid flux series of tutorials, and the static effect is very good, but due to the limitations of the equipment, the complete dynamics and interaction are still lacking.

Thank you for watching until the end, much appreciated!
