Introduction

Hello, everyone!

I’m excited to present my latest project made at Think Tank, this environment is created starting with a  concept of "Zahir Aghakhani"

Abandoned City

The first time I saw this concept was at the beginning of the journey at Think Tank, I immediately understood that it would be my final project, I have always been attracted by post-apocalyptic or abandoned urban environments and after seeing the series "The last of us" I was very excited at the idea of recreating such an environment.

My idea for this project was to create what survivors would see when returning to the camp in this destroyed city, passing by outposts and lookout points.

Breakdown

Reference Board

I made sure to spend as much time as possible to gather references to help me during modeling and texturing

Main Shot - Various Maps (Beauty,Clay,Diffuse,Bump)

I have knowledge of variety of 3D software, but for this particular project, I chose Autodesk Maya as my primary 3D package and Chaos Group V-Ray as the rendering engine. For texturing , I used both The Foundry’s Mari and Vray for some procedural texture. Additionally, Adobe Photoshop and After Effects were used to prepare this submission. I'm proud to say that I was responsible for every single detail of this project, showcasing my skills from start to finish.

The first step for this project was to set up the camera and align it to the concept to get a first idea of the size of the space of the environment, after which the second step is to blocking out the scene according to the concept, setting a correct scale of the scene is a crucial point during this phase.

The next step was to modeling and Uv mapping all the assets that I wanted in the scene.

After this two process I started with the texturing where I embraced the nodes workflow in Mari and tried some procedural texture in Vray.

Here some renders during the process.

The last step was about the lighting rig and the compositing, here I made a lot of changes during the process trying to achieve my idea of the scene.

So, this was my project "Abandoned city", I hope you find it interesting.

Thank you

Marco Cavalitto
