Round of applause for our sponsors

This was an incredibly fun project I worked on in collaboration with wonderful environment artist Angela Bello (visit her on Artstation). I was responsible for all the animations which I created in Autodesk Maya using the Tyrant Dragon rig by Truong.

This project was inspired by Joshua Chia's Dragons Rise environment concept art.

You can also visit me on Artstation to see more fun projects!

I researched a lot of animals, especially flying ones from bats, parrots, vultures to bugs flying squirrels and flying lizards!

Animal and creature animation requires a lot of subtleties to reach realism. This very small and seemingly insignificant moments are actually very important to sell the illusion. It is also important to acknowledge how the environment is affecting the character as in wind for example. These moments can be seen in the way the spikes move, the tail, the skin of the wings, the way the creature tries to retain it's balance in the air.

This project taught me about those details and now I have learned to recognize them in art and in real life and apply them in my own work.

This is the concept art inspiration^^ and below is the interpretation!

This last video showcases the cinematic shots that I created in Unreal Engine 5 using the level sequencer. It was a great learning opportunity for me to get familiar with staging and cinematography and it's when I learned that less is in fact more!

Note: These videos are to showcase my animations and at the time of filming them, the environment was a work in progress but still beautiful nonetheless but soon enough the full cinematic will be uploaded.
