The Blue-Haired Warrior

The Blue-Haired Warrior was one of the first characters I created during my second year at Howest DAE. This project taught me a lot about the pipeline of character creation.
How to effectively use reference images, and the importance of topology in 3D modeling.

To honor the original concept of Satoshi Matsuura, I decided to give rendering a second try using the grease pencil in Blender. This amazing feature allowed me to draw directly on the 3D model. I had a lot of fun with this render, as it gave me the opportunity to learn more about Blender.

Vasilius

While I’m  focusing on learning more about rigging this year, I still wanted to take the time to push myself to get better at the different aspects of character creation. 

During one of my scroll sessions on Artstation, I discovered  Vasilius, an original concept by the talented artist Sean Budanio. 
I immediately wanted to bring this character to life in 3D.

To give Vasilius a bit more personality, I added a few blendshapes using the FACS method. To ensure that I have  control while creating blendshapes, I paint weights on different clusters in Maya. These clusters allow me to precisely rotate, translate, and  scale different parts of the skin.

These works where both made using ZBrush, retopologized in Maya, textured in Substance Painter and rendered in Arnold Maya or Blender
