The Portal

Responsible for FX, Modeling, Shading, Lighting, Scene Assembly and Color Grading.

This is a collaborative project with one of my classmates at ArtFX.

As the main attraction for this project was the Portal FX, I spent the most time on it, driving through different iterations and taking refences from movies like Avengers Endgame or the Blue Fire Spell from Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

The Different Iterations for the Portal are shown below.

I tried different methods Using Pyro, Particles and Pyro following the Particles, but in the end the Final portal was done by using just Pyro Solver using multiple micro solvers and custom velocity fields.

The process view shows the first 3 slides with different lights that i did as the lighting artist, the compositing slide done by my friend and then the final colorgrading which i was responsible for.

As the Modeler I used Houdini to Create the models as I can change anything I want after getting notes from the Environment Artist.

The Trail FX was done using Particles Ray from the Ship to the Helipad and the other Ship and using the Helipad and the other ship as Pyro Colliders and getting randomness to give it different velocities depending on how far is the ship from the surface.

The Final Scene Assembly and Lighting was done in Houdini Solaris after taking the Assembled Terrain and trees from the environment artist and combining it with the Final models, portal and Trail FX and the Ships

Thanks For Viewing this project, it took quiet a few months to be done with this project from a concept to Final render and Color Grading and learnt quiet a few things like simulations, Scene Assembly, Lighting big environments and working as a team.

THANKS FOR WATCHING
