Mariana Morales - 3D Modeling/Texture Artist - Lucia the Dinosaur
Lucia is the hero asset I created for my 2024 senior graduating film. All my skills and knowledge of modeling and texturing are showcased here. I hope you enjoy it!
Meet Lucia! She's a dinosaur I modeled and textured for my team's graduating film at the Creative Media Institute at New Mexico State University. Here's a breakdown of the process of how I created her!
I created her skeleton with references from Scott Hartman's Skeletal Drawings. This helped me understand where her muscles would lie before starting her main blocking. This also helped me get her proportions how we liked. From skeleton to blocking, and from blocking to base model.
With close communication with our Rigging Artist (Andrea Huizar), we decided to create a proxy mesh (blocking mesh) that she would rig while I worked on Lucia's more detailed mesh. This rig would be transferred to the finished UV'd base model. This allowed us to work side by side and simultaneously without waiting for the other to finish.
While Andrea worked on the rig, I worked on Lucia's details in Zbrush and surface textures in Substance Painter.
Since Lucia is a desert Dinosaur, I took my texture inspiration from the Desert Iguana and other various desert lizards.
Once her rig was finished, I added her textures and viola!
Here are some turntables of my process.
