Oh heeeyyy there! My name is Lucia, and I'm a Motion Design student in Ringling College of Art + Design. I've always had a passion for creating and telling stories that people feel connected to. I love experimenting and mixing different media to create unique pieces. I especially enjoy giving my work a 'hand-made' look.

Here's my portfolio! - Website - Instagram - LinkedIn

ANIMAL ANTICS - 3D ANIMATION

A little guy goes on an adventure to explore nature... but does nature want to be explored?

This is a series of 6 seamless loops which are meant to look hand-made and stop motion-like - almost like a miniature world. The materials are things we could very much see on our daily life: wood and clay!

Watch the individual loops here!

Psst! All the clay textures were made from pictures of my own clay!

ADULT SWIM ID - STOP MOTION ANIMATION

An abstract title sequence highlighting the essence of Adult Swim, through a big, cute, sweaty, sick, monster!

I wanted to convey a sense of disgust and cuteness, so I decided to work with clay. Part of this piece is made in real stop motion animation, then composited in After Effects. Other parts are made to look 'stop motion' using posterize time and keyframe animation. Prior to shooting stop motion in DragonFrame, I made cel animation reference that I would trace with the clay.

Photoshop, the roto brush, the wiggle expression, turbulent displace and posterize time were my best friends during this project!

3 OPTIONS - 2D ANIMATION

This project is based around Persian Empire's track '3 Options'. The goal was to visually convey internationally famous British chef Marco Pierre White's words of an interview fragment. In this interview, he talks about an important turning point in his life where he had to consider choosing one of three options: maintaining the status quo, living a lie or risking everything by having a new, fresh start to his life.

For this project I wanted to experiment with lights and 2.5D in After Effects. I wanted to emphasize the layers and the motion parallax effect when the camera pans across, giving it this paper look with the help of textures and lighting. The three options are divided by three colors in the design. It was important that the audience understood there was a change from option to option.

All animation was done in After Effects.

KERNING ROBOT - 2D ANIMATION

A little kerning robot to fix all your design problems!

This little robot was rigged using nulls and parenting. It was definitely a challenging to animate so many moving parts, but I enjoyed showing the overlap and followthrough throughout the whole piece!

NEW KICKS - 2D ANIMATION + TACTILE

Creating a 10-second sneaker mock advertisement using mixed media, highlighting the five senses. The overall piece needed to be colorful, cheerful and playful, so I decided to achieve that using clay. I made my own assets, showing its charming imperfection and texture. I then imported all the pictured into Photoshop and cleaned them up. I didn't want to alter them too much to the point that they would look too perfect, but I wanted to make sure there was no distracting bits of dust or different colored clay. I imported all the assets into After Effects and animated them. Since the look of the clay is quite organic, I pushed the 'stop motion' look by using a posterize time effect and turbulent displace in all the assets.

QUACK! - 2D ANIMATION

An animated singing ducks typeface inspired by little eyes and birds! I animated each individual letter in separate compositions using shape layers in After Effects. Since they all looked like little ducks, I wanted to create a cute story to show some funny and charming interaction between them!

MODERN CHAIRS - 3D ANIMATION

A fun loop showing the transition of two modernist chairs, highlighting their functionality, their sleek design and questioning their similarities and differences. The assets were modelled in Cinema4D using sculpting techniques.

BAUHAUS OBSTACLE COURSE - 2D ANIMATION

A Bauhaus poster style obstacle course animation inspired by my visit to the Bauhaus Museum in Weimar, Germany. It was essential for me to show interactivity between the ball and its environment. The goal was for the animation to have a sense of realism, leading the audience to believe that this loop could actually happen if built in real life. In my visit to the Bauhaus Museum I gathered images useful in the research process for this project. The sound design was inspired by the jazz scene of this time period.

All assets were designed in Illustrator and animated in After Effects.
