Hello! I am a rising senior at the Savannah College of Art and Design majoring in Technical Animation with a concentration in Lighting and Compositing. I also enjoy modeling and surfacing on the side. This is some of my work from the last 10 weeks. Please enjoy!

Hello!

I have presented here two of the collaborative and solo projects that have made up this year. I hope you enjoy seeing the process as much as I enjoyed working on these projects!

                            THE CARTOGRAPHER'S LIBRARY:

                                Responsible for All Aspects

The Cartographer's Library is a solo project I did inspired by the Victorian style and the cluttered feeling of a well-used study and library.

In the ideation phase of this project, I sketched out a rough idea of what I wanted the project to look like and collected mood and asset references. I will preface this next image by saying I am certainly NOT a concept artist, but this sketch did lay the foundation for the kind of scene I was going to create!

No scene would be any fun without a subject! So, I decided early on to create a gecko inspired by the classical 3D Animation style.

To add visual storytelling, I devised that this little gecko had escaped his enclosure and created a mess in the already messy study.

It was my goal on this project to lean into making a lot of smart materials for the various woods, papers, and books around the scene in order to expedite the surfacing process. Below I have more process images showing the transition from modeling to materials and final image.

All of these pieces combined came together in the final environment shown below.

                             THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA:
                  Responsible for Lighting and Compositing

                                    Concept by Celine Kim

This project was a collaboration between 6 artists with the intent of bringing Celine Kim's masterful Phantom Of The Opera concept art to life.

I am responsible for the lighting, layout, and compositing on this project and so that is what I will be showing the process of!

A lot of testing and ideation went into the process of finding how to translate the mystical feel of Celine Kim's work into 3D space.  We played with multiple ways of framing each shot, and found that there were many areas of give and take between maintaining the style from the concept and also keeping at least one foot in reality.

Please enjoy the final result below!

This project was certainly a fun and challenging one! Creating something in Unreal Engine with this volume of lights, glass, metal, and everything in between was no easy task. At the same time, it was the perfect project to tackle with Unreal's rendering capabilities.
