What is Canvas of the Void?

Canvas of the Void is a surrealist 2D / 3D animated web-series that ran from July 26th 2023 to May 29th 2024. It stars Rey and Bit as they have to navigate the unknown world of the Void. Since its conclusion, the final version of the project is finally realized with each video being combined into a full 4 minute film!

During 2021, liminal space imagery was very prevalent in the online space, and many people resonated with it including myself. I wanted to capture the lonely and secluded, yet comforting feeling into my work. I wanted an abstract world that worked in mysterious ways. This was the inspiration for Canvas of the Void. Not only was an empty space for a setting efficient for production as the solo animator, it allowed for creative direction for storytelling that wouldn't have been possible otherwise.

Canvas of the Void was going to be a web-series from the start, however as I was working on each scene from episode 1, I soon realized it would take way too long to post them regularly. This gave me the idea to post each completed scene as it's own episode. That way, I got more out of each scene, and I could get feedback as I kept working. As the series went on, I decided it would be best to end the series at the end of the original episode 1. The final product may not have been as long as I first imagined it to be, but I am happy with what was accomplished!
