Soul Restraints Game and Level Design

Soul Restraints is my passion project. I started developing the pitch deck below in the span of a month during spring of 2023.

Soon after, I created the game design document but had to take a break from learning and developing to take care of my family. Finally getting back to learning game design and continuing to develop my project in January 2024 I stayed focus on my vision of the game and learning to to use unreal engine 5 and blender. Below shows the first few rooms I created from January 2024-March 2024 working on trying to nail the dark rundown prison theme I was going for as well as the beginning area of the level.

In April 2024 I unfortunately was pushing myself to limit for too long and ended up in the hospital putting a halt to developing the level. I put myself first and even though I was limited, I tried to learn what I can.

In May 2024 I recovered enough to continue working on my project and developed the following areas below using what I learned about lighting, designing meshes, creating effects and programming the camera view.

Once I started building combat areas I decided to make each room into a combat arena. The player can use their movement to traverse the area to fight off waves of enemies coming to subdue them.

To keep areas feeling unique, I designed each arena to have different characteristics. The next area below is full of steam and is programmed to randomly fill the area with more steam to block the player's vision for long range magic attacks but also reduces the melee defense of mechanical enemies so they are easier to deal with up close.

The final boss area is a connection from the underground prison to catacombs that prisoners have been getting hulled off into for experimentation and the only chance for the player to get out. The boss is a stationary threat shooting beams and pulses while the terrain gives the player defensive positioning during it's offensive phases.

Although the level outline is already made, have much more work and detail to put in. I hope to make it a complete game in the near future.
