Round of applause for our sponsors

Hiya! I'm Tricia! Nice to meet ya'!

I’m a motion designer with a big imagination! I love to dabble in 2D + 3D animation, graphic design, visual effects, and explore anything art-related! I have just graduated from Ringling College of Art and Design and would like to share a collection of my work and projects during my years at Ringling's Motion Design Department!

Check out my reel & work below :)

Dandelions

Dandelions is my senior thesis and final project as a student. During our senior year at Ringling College of Art + Design, Motion Design students were tasked with creating a final original piece intended to evoke an emotional response from the viewer. This project was meant to demonstrate experimentation, self-expression, and the development of a unique aesthetic.

Sound Design/Cover by Kelly Warner. Voiceover by Tricia Joganich. Original Song: Vienna by Billy Joel.

For my thesis, I wanted to create something meaningful for, both, myself and others. Growing up as a military child, I felt that our lifestyle had little representation. While there were many aspects I could have explored, I chose to focus on the impact of moving - in my case, every two years (before the age of 18, I have moved 10 times). Initially, I resented the frequent relocations, especially leaving family and friends. However, over time, I recognized the unique opportunities it provided: meeting new people, making friends, traveling the world, and experiencing diverse cultures. We, military kids, are called Dandelions because we adapt and thrive wherever the wind takes us.

PROCESS

When it came time to choose a design style, I explored various options I hadn't tried before. It was essential that the visual style matched my project's concept and message. After much experimentation, I settled on my fifth style direction, which combines elements of collage, rotoscope, and cel animation. This style is not one I typically use, but I love a good challenge and felt it suited the topic of my animation.

When creating shots for my project, I drew inspiration from my memories and personal photographs. I aimed to connect with other military kids, but since our experiences vary, I wanted to share my own as a tribute to the people and moments that shaped me. Using my memories, feelings, and pictures allowed me to capture and bring to life the essence of my moving experience.

NFL NETWORK

I was tasked with creating an exciting teaser for an upcoming match between two sports rivals, and a reminder to watch it on the NFL Network. I grew up watching NFL games with my family almost every weekend. When the opportunity came to work on the NFL Network Matchups, I knew I had to jump on it. For this project, I was excited to see how I could make these broadcasts different and more creative.

CONCEPT | THE PLAYBOOK

No matter who you are or what you do, you are always taking notes, physically and mentally. Taking a more artistic approach, we take a look inside a football player's playbook as they prepare themselves for their next game.

This project includes typography, live footage from NFL games, and "replicated" stop motion techniques using Adobe After Effects to give this piece a playbook feel.

Full Credits include Audio by Kelly Warner; Voiceover by Corey Davis; Design and Animation by Tricia Joganich

Awarded a 2 Silver Local ADDY Awards for this piece in 2024

NPR EXLPAINER

My partner, Bethany Fuller, and I were inspired by the idea of making connections and the positive effect it has on our lives. After reading articles on NPR, we chose two of our favorite articles to bring to life“Why a Stranger's Hello Can Do More Than Just Brighten Your Day” and “How a Random Chat With a Stranger Can Bring Joy-Even If the Stranger’s a Lizard.”

CONCEPT | MIXED MEDIA MINGLE

Mixed Media Mingle illustrates the power of unexpected hellos and celebrates the importance of strangers in our lives.

This project includes stop motion, typography, live footage, and dynamic Adobe After Effects animation to give this piece an unexpected take on meeting strangers.

Full Credits include Audio by Universal Production Music; Voiceover by Nicole Dicola; Design and Animation by Tricia Joganich and Bethany Fuller

Awarded a District Gold ADDY Award and a Silver Local ADDY Award for this piece in 2024

VFX

Using NUKE, we learned the technical and artistic nature of 2D + 3D digital compositing, integrating live-action footage with computer-generated imagery.

Covered Topics: basic image creation, representation and manipulation, color correction processes, chroma-keying, planar tracking technologies, and visual cues necessary to create a believable composite.

Here's my compositing breakdown reel :)

TRY OUR NEW NACHOS

Task: Shoot a plate of a non-digital screen, and then create an animated poster that must start static and "come to life" in a creative way.

Concept: In a cozy restaurant, a Specials menu on the table comes to life with animated food characters lounging about. Suddenly, real food is placed on the table, and the menu characters stare in horror at their counterparts.

Awarded 2 Silver Local ADDY Awards for this piece in 2024

HOLIDAY SHOPPING AT TARGET

Task: Create a 5 -30 second scene, branded in the style of any existing Target Commercial, while using a green screen composite.

Concept: Staying warm inside, friends gather to have a winter movie night while showcasing Target’s holiday products, such as: clothes, plushies, food, decor, scents, and movies.

Awarded 2 Silver Local ADDY Awards and Best of Ringling - VFX Award for this piece in 2024

OKIE DOKIE ARTICHOKIE

Task: Create a composite that involves tracking and creating a 3D object (typography) into a live-action plate.

Concept: Why did I choose this for my type? Well, if you ask anyone, they will tell you I say a lot of weird phrases — Okie Dokie Artichokie being one of them. I thought it would be a fun way to express myself.

MORE FUN WORK!

THANK YOU!

Taking what I learned from my time in the Motion Design Department at Ringling, I will continue to grow and color outside the lines and create art wherever the world takes me!

Thank you for taking the time to look through my work! I really appreciate it and I hope you enjoyed! :)
