Synopsis :

Character Design :

In this short-film, we are following Cedric, the main character through his two differents relationships, with Laurence his wife, and with Lucie his daughter. 

We used two different style to represent if Cedric is in the real world so in the present, or if he's in the past so in his memories.

Cedric :

Boards and turn around of the main character : Cedric. 

Cedric is a young father of 30 years old. He's a creative man who loves to play and make laugh his daughter, he is very attentive towards his family.
Since the death of his daughter he isn't the same anymore, he stayed everyday closed up in his house.

Laurence :

Laurence is 32 years old, she's a busy woman but she's always trying to find some time for her family. She's got a strong and strict temper but she really loved her family and her daughter.
Since the death of her daughter, she tryied to take her life back even if it can be difficult sometimes.

Lucie :

Lucie is the only child of Laurence and Cedric, she died a the age of 9 years old due to a disease. She was a cheerfull little girl, and she was always optimistic even during her sickness.

Storyboard :

Here is our first storyboard, it's composed by 10 sequences. This storyboard has evolved with the time, and some of the frames changed or has been deleted.

Animatic  :

After being enough convinced by the storyboard, we combined all the frames to make an animatic of this short film and saw what doesn't works and what works good.
That video is our most recent animatic and this is sonorized.

Animation :

We used to style in the character design, so we used also two different way to animate our short film. For the animation in the present we mostly animate the characters in puppet using the software Adobe Animate. And for the memories of Cedric we animate it in traditionnal with the software procreate. 

After the animatic, we started to make a few animations of some scenes of certain sequences, that we were pretty sure of it, and we also made some cycle and test to take in hand and appropriate the characters.

Backgrounds :

First of all, we created the entire house of this family in 3D to have a base of the proportions and to help us in the future when we will draw the backgrounds.

The settings of this short film fit and grow up with the mood of the main character. To realise that two differents styles are used. The first one represents the real world/the present, in dull, desatured and cold shades, with a graphic style defines like realist.
While the second one represents the memories of Cedric’s past in warmed and bright colors at the opposite of the present with a graphic style looking like it was draw with a sketching chalk, there is also a white vignetting a bit blurry tightening the settings to dive furthermore in the past and in the memories of the main character.
