Hi !
My name is Armand Bely, i'm 2nd year at ESMA school France,
and i present to you my favorit project in several steps.
INSECT / MICROCOSMOS
References and Reseach
To start i searched insect pictures and references. My first idea is a Wasp so I headed towards some flying insects. I took several different parts of several different insects and then put them together and imagined the design of my insect. For exemple, wings are dragonfly wings. After that, I drew the first sketches.
Modeling
For the modeling 3D, i used Maya and ZBrush Software. Using ZBrush, I refined the modeling to add details, and I produced displace maps.
Shading
Shading is my favorite part ! I based myself on simple colors, everything was done procedurally on renderman. I pushed the detail to the extreme to the point that we can see the ports of the skin. And finally I added groom.
Rigging
The next step is to rigg the insect so that it can be manipulated and animated later.
ENVIRONMENT
Once the insect is finished, it must be integrated into a decor. So I took references to the fig tree.
Here are the first tests of my environment. A simple tree branch, a few fruits and a few leaves are enough. I loved texturing these elements especially in fig.
To bring more life into the environment, I added a spider web
And here is the finished environment with the animation of the finished insect !
The next step is to make the image beautiful with Nuke Software
And finally, a little noise, that’s the result !
TIMELAPSE SEXTANT
For this 2nd project, I created an object that wears out over time in the form of a timelapse. The object I chose to create is a sextant, a navigation instrument. Here are the references I was able to gather.
Modeling
After that, i started modeling paying attention to the details of the object.
Shading
Then I shaded the object in 2 versions, one clean and another not clean
Spread map
I created a propagation on Renderman which will allow you to move from one texture to another.
Here is a rendering test with a simple light.
After that, I created environment. I chose the cabin of a pirate ship.
This is my first test at camera movement.
