I'm Eleonora and I'm super excited to present you my entry at Rookie Awards 2024. These are my first projects ever created at Skuyp Academy. I hope you like them and let's start!

The first project was made during the photorealism module, while the second one during the sculpting module. I hope you'll enjoy looking at the process.

Bathroom of a cute dollhouse

This is the project I've been working on for the past two months. These are the renders of my second project at Skyup Academy during the photorealism module. Let's start with the renders!

References

First I searched for different shots of the bathroom and I found a few more.

Then I studied the different objects and materials and looked for references for each one of them.

Modeling

As I got to study my scene better, I moved on to the next step: modeling. At first, I tried to match the camera position and focal length as closely as possible, and after some mistakes, I was happy with the result. Then I started blocking out the main volumes.

After the establishment of the main volumes, it was time to model the various objects. I tried my best to pay attention to every detail.

UV Mapping

The next phase was the UV unwrapping, where I worked on optimizing the management of the UVs and Udims of the scene. We worked with Udims with 2K resolution.

Textures

After finishing the UV unwrapping, I exported the model on Substance Painter and started the texturing. At first, I did an initial blocking of the colors to sort the materials (wood, cloth, ceramic, glass, plastic, ...) and then I assigned the right color and texture to each object.

To complete the texturing, I added some dust and scratches overall.

Lighting

The last step was setting the lighting. My scene has two warm lights inside the bathroom, and two neutral lights from the environment, one from right and one from behind.

In conclusion, I'm very happy with my results even though it wasn't simple to obtain. It was a challenging but satisfying journey and I am happy with the progress I've made.

Brownie, a pouting little creature

This is my first project ever, developed during the first module of the Computer Graphics Masterclass at Skyup Academy. My concept is inspired by a creature of Scottish mythology: a Brownie.

But let's start with the final renders!

Concept

A Brownie is a little creature that is said to come out at night while the owners of the house are asleep and perform various chores. According to Scottish folklore, they are easily offended and that's the reason why I decided to give him a pouting expression, as if the hosts had given him more work to do that night.

This is my sketch of him, with the final pose. At first, I didn't consider the proportions of the objects so later I had to change a few things.

References

Since it was my first model I used a lot of references to help me flesh out the character a little better. It was extremely useful both during the creation of the sketch and the sculpting of every minute detail.

Sculpting

I started by roughly planning out the proportions and then proceeded with the posing. I had to make a few adjustments along the way, such as enlarging a few areas and making a more dynamic pose.

Detailing

I tried my best to put attention to detail in body, facial expression, clothing, and accessories. I put a lot of effort into the shirt's folds, the pants' stitching, and the overall texture of the various materials.

Lighting

After completing the sculpting, I moved on to the lighting.

To properly set the environment, I went for a strong warm fill light like the one from a lit fireplace and a cooler back light to evoke the moonlight peeking through an open window.

In conclusion, I had a lot of fun seeing my idea come to life, and I hope you enjoyed looking back at the process even half as much as I enjoyed making it!
