Queen's Jester and Fallen Angel

for me the most important thing is give the freedom, to all my creation, to tell their own story. being able to create an imaginary past, with a bit of exaggeration, is a stimulation for creativity and you can give them a soul.

(what you will read behind is result of imagination)

queen's Jester was a famous character during her kingdom. Behind this mask there was a poignant person for the royal family. years before the queen found out his king had a child with an important actress of that time. the queen became furious of this situation, exiled her king, the actress and the newborn. the baby grew up into poverty, without a father and a mother, who decided to abandon the child when he just turned 10. when he turned 16, he improved his skills of acting, like his mother; he started travel around Europe and became so famous. the queen wanted at all cost, this new pearl of the show, in her castle, but she didn't recognized him. 

she felt so in love with this young man, and he too. he made her laugh every day and night, he composed ballade and the queen's favourite one, and he becamed so necessary for the queen that worked also as  councillor. the kingdom's wizard, the secret king's brother, who knew al the story, and kept his eyes on him all the time, decide to ruin the queen's life, revealing everthing.

the queen was nearly suicidal, unwillingly decided to kill him, because was againts the rules to marry a member of an exiled family. the boy, now a grown man, agreed his fate, left a gift for her queen on her bed, his mask in which he worked on stages, but with a particularity, he made add in the plumes, the queen's favourite ballade, that sang every day. so that she would have a memory.

the accademy gave us this model of a venecian mask and we had to texture it as whe wanted, being very loyal to the reference we choose.

characteristics:

i used two types of gold material, one for giving brightness and the other one to re-create the demaged

for the hat and plumes, i choosed a texture that looked suede, and with alpha i tried to create the lacework, add a metal filter for pailletes.

using black mask, i downloaded a musical score giving a ancient paper material, and with alphas i re-create the drawing that seems made with colored glue

PROJECT ENVIROMENT

Fallen Angel

The fallen Angel was a mysterious creature who lived in different types of worlds. he could travel in snow, rain, hot lands. was sent by another galaxy to save and protect children, in particular he became affectionate to four. The first appearance was made in front of the little one, who wasn't scared at all, however curious. but the Lion didn't want to get attached. he was sent to mission, being  the guide of this 4 siblings, help them grow up and be able to stay safe in a world completely wild without rules. 

they traveled a lot till one day... the lion was old and didn't want to leave the children, he convinced himself to guide them for a last experience. the moment turned in a bad one, the creature sacrificed himself to save the siblings in a war against enemies, who wanted to kidnap the new wonders of white magic. the lion exhausted felt in eternal sleep, remembering the best moments spent with them. to let other person know the fable, they created a shrine who became symbol of eternal calm and musing, but the lion never abandoned them, also from far continued protected them.

the project started in Autodesk Maya, with very simple geometries. spheres with straight edges for stairs and the last two with a little extrusion to create a mini margin. cubes for bigs and smalls stones, a cut sphere for the sink and vases and torus for the arches

than we could start with ZBrush to create details of stone and give some ancient taste.

with lots of patience, digging every grain, I can finally set the low and high poly before going to substance

the references the I used were different one from the other and I took little parts to make it appear as real as possible

in substance painter I was very confused, I didn't know if make it seems wet as it was found under sea, with fresh moss, or make it wet jus near the sink, as it were first dispensing water.

at first I started giving texture of stone, bronzing the lion and giving sketch to were put moss

putting texture was quite hard but intrigued a lot, every part of dirt and moss, was made with paint layer and variation of the same material but with different color.

render made with unreal, by teacher feedback the source should be bigger than world, as it was the center of "parallel world"
