Lou-Ann Chaussis - Concept Art Portfolio

"A Light In The Dark" is a post-apocalyptic project in which we follow Azadeh and her little sister Aïda. The two sisters are trying to flee their country, torn apart by civil war. The leader of this country has made it his mission to eradicate mutants, humans who have been accidentally genetically modified.

For this image, I based my work on a screenshot from Google Maps. I added free 3D assets found online and used both photo elements and painting in my workflow. I particularly wanted to emphasize the insecurity that prevails in the streets of the country.

How have things been organized in this city? Are there camps for civilians? Are they controlled by the army or by the rebels? Is it safe for the two young girls to go there?

I tried to better understand the environment in which they live. The walls, the windows... This work also involves the posters, which further accentuate the climate of insecurity for them as mutants.

Azadeh is the elder sister. The civil war has forced her to put aside her fears and doubts to protect her sister as best as she can. I studied the clothing and fashion in Eastern countries to ensure that Azadeh's outfit is as coherent as possible.

Aïda encounters violence through the eyes of an 8-year-old child. She is worried about her parents and her other siblings, so she clings to Azadeh and her stuffed animal named Nusha during this difficult time.

One of the biggest challenges of this project was creating the mutations of Azadeh and Aïda. Like a metamorphic power, these mutations can be hidden or revealed at the will of the mutant.

God's Nursery is a 3D environment and photobash concept project. In a world entirely covered in snow, a crew accidentally discovers a temperate valley where life is possible. They name it God's Nursery.

I really wanted to invite exploration with this image. I learned a lot from working on it.

Right after the crash, the crew doesn't yet realize that the catastrophe might not be as terrible as it seems.

Mistral is a team project: I had the opportunity to work with my entire Master's class at Ynov Bordeaux on this project. We were all responsible for different tasks. My role was to work on the rocky textures for the mountains in the project.

Mistral is a fictional animated film project in which we follow the adventures of Lancelot, a young and brave knight who decides to defeat the most dangerous and powerful dragon.

I co-designed thoses rocks with my schoolmate Tuhana Pea.

I particularly enjoyed collaborating with my classmates on this project. We truly succeeded in creating an inspiring and enriching environment for everyone. Here are the different iterations of textures and colors that I was able to present to them.

And here are these textures applied to the dragon's mountain. The original design of the mountain is by my classmate Houssam Niny.

With the additional time I had, I proposed a keyframe for the project: Lancelot's arrival by airship. The design of the airship is by my classmates Doriane Dessevre, Christopher Langlois, and Eliott Fiengo.

Other Work

Character design work. Emilio is a New York gang leader during the Prohibition era. I took creative liberties with his outfit to try to create a unique design.
