by jbucciarelli on 31 May 2024 for Rookie Awards 2024

This is my first advanced project created in Unreal Engine 5 for my second game art class at SCAD. I created a sci-fi subway.

Round of applause for our sponsors

This is my first Unreal Engine 5 project in my second game art class at SCAD. I decided to depict a subway in a sci-fi aesthetic. Since I'm a beginner, I decided to focus on complex modeling and creating textures within Unreal. I used Maya, Adobe Substance 3D Painter, Unreal Engine 5, and Procreate. I really enjoy what I was able to accomplish within a 10 week period for this project!

These are the main modular components for the subway cart. My plan was to incorporate emissive headlights in Unreal Engine 5 and create modular detailing that can be added to the main components.

These are the subway cart modular details that I added to the subway cart itself.

After studying the bottom components of a subway cart, I did my best to simplify these models as players will not really see them. However, I did want my subway cart to have these components so I can create a cool lighting effect under the subway cart.

These images represent the main parts of the scene including walls, pillars, beams, wall dividers, stairs, subway tracks, and details. I decided to combine the ceiling beams with the wall divider so that each divider would precisely line up with the corresponding beam. I also painted detailing in Adobe Substance 3D Painter.

Here we have the details that complete the environment. I wanted to try and create things that were unique to the aesthetic of my scene, such as the moving ticket machine screens using panners in Unreal Engine 5.

Here is an example of one of the screens on the ticket machines. I created text in Adobe Substance 3D Painter and used patterns to create the red, blue, and green pattern. This was my first time playing around with panners in Unreal Engine 5.

Thank you for watching!
