The story is set in 1200, in the mexican city of Teotihuacan.
A woman carriyng a baby is running away from the grasp of three warriors. After offering her blood at the summit of a pyramid, an earthquake shakes the city.
And so, a divine appearance descends from the skies…

Always by sticking to the scenario, as an Environment Concept artist, you have to show a good sense of composition. Being able to present different camera angle and views in order to make the spectator feel a certain emotion is primordial.

I have to be aware of the use of my work while in the production. If I want to be an Environment Concept artist, I need to make the work easier for the people passing after me. So, using references is nice. But showing how you used them, and what exactly is this or that material is better.

My process starts with Maya. I create all of my models here. Sometines I use ZBrush in order to sculpt some specific elements like this snake head sculpture . Next, I export all of them in Blender where I put my lights and textures. Then I paintover in Photoshop, using the passes as a base.

The same goes for the columns earlier, but the process of searching, making explorations and iterations is something that I trully enjoy doing. Telling myself "What if ..." opens a whole world of possibilities and ideas. And I love it.

As an Environment Concept artist, I shall expose different explorations of the same location. How a certain place can evolve? How can it change throughout the weather / lights / time of the day / events ?

But it depends of the finality of the project. If it is a unique scene in a film, then I have to stick to the scenario. But even then I have still room for explorations.

These were my concepts for the project: "Legend of Nahuatl". I did enjoyed working on it. Seeing the environments that I imagine coming to life is really pleasing.
I hope I was able to make you fly to Teotihuacan, even for a little bit.
Thank you for your time !
