3D Animation Demo Reel

Alexandra Jane Mallinson
by AlexJaneAnimation on 31 May 2024 for Rookie Awards 2024

The first project is a 3D animation I created in my second year at the University of Arts London. My project was to use only three shots to convey a narrative, mine being the relationship between a monster and a cat. The second project is my skillset in Unreal Engine and the third is a monologue voice-over animation.

The Cat & The Monster - Short Three Shot Film

This Year 2 Animation project was originally called 'Three Sides', a project in which we could tell a narrative only using three camera angles and shots.

These are screen captures of the animation without texture or lighting applied.

Moodboards created for this project - a lot of inspiration is from 'The Last of Us' game and show.

For this project, I did not use my own rigs or models and instead used separate artists so I could focus on background and world-building design.

Unreal Engine Background Animations

This was an exercise I created to show my skill in understanding assets from Unreal Engine and how to use the camera, fern and particle systems. Most of these assets were form Quixel MegaScans besides from the robot character which was made by me.

Monologue Character Animation

Above is the latest animation I did for my year 2 class, focusing on character animation and demonstrating my skill in animating dialogue, emotion and gesture.

Above are my mindmaps and mood boards I created for the pre-production of this project. All images are from online resources such as Pinterest and the films shown.

The video above is evidence of my blocking out of the character and how I chose to animate him. This rig is from Gumroad and is not my own besides the animation. Link to website: https://gabrielsalas.gumroad.com/l/gTdpb

Thanks for looking at my work!
