The objective was to breathe life into a captivating and imaginative 2d concept by the concept artist Muhammad Firdaus —a swordfish shaped pirate ship that defies gravity, carried aloft by a colossal hot air ballon.

Round of applause for our sponsors

In the culmination of an exhilarating four-week journey for our foundation term final project at the think tank Online Training centre, I embarked on a transformative journey into the world of 3D modeling and rendering for the first time. My final project, "Pirate Ship - Floating Swordfish," was inspired by the visionary concept art of Muhammad Firdaus.

Autodesk Maya was used to craft the 3D model and tackle the complexities of UV layout.

After the Uv layout was finalized in Maya, the Texturing was done in Foundry Mari to meticulously paint rich and intricate details on the surfaces of my model. I created different Masks to separate the different materials for easy selection and painted the Diffuse, Specular, Glossiness and Bump maps.

The Final Look Dev was done in Maya with V-Ray, its ray tracing capabilities, combined with carefully tuned settings, ensured the project's realism and cinematic quality. V-ray’s Blend material was setup in Maya’s Hypershade to create different layers of textures. The base material were overlaid with different coat layers to make the settings easy to control.
