My time at School-ing

I'm Pablo Perez Suarez, argentinian architect and student of the 6th edition of the professional course of Architectural Visualization at School-ing. I am very happy to be taking my first steps in this discipline, learning from very good teachers and with a very consistent methodology. Although the learning process is long, I feel that I have enough tools to give my contribution in the industry.

The coordinate point

The house of the circular terraces, by the architect Denis Joelsons, was the first project of the course, through which I made contact with the basic software and architectural modeling.

It is evident that, being the beginning, I have not had so many technical resources but it has been a good support to strengthen certain skills in software such as 3D Max, forestpack and apply the knowledge of materials and lighting in V-Ray.

Strengthening the foundations

Advancing in the process of learning, gaining fluency and mastery of the tools, the next challenge was polygonal modeling applied to furniture design.I have chosen a classic of industrial design, the BKF chair, originated in Argentina and with a minimalist imprint.

I highlight as a tool learned in this process the conceptual ability to start the polygonal modeling and texture mapping with modifiers such as Unwrap UVW.

Towards professionalism

In this stage of the course, we start developing interior design projects under the real stages of the architectural visualization process. Getting introduced to the work methodology and meeting deadlines are the objectives achieved in this project. In this case the scenario is a house in the Torres Blancas building, an icon of brutalist architecture in Madrid, remodeled by the interior design studio “Studio Noju”.

Besides the introduction of valuable tools such as Sini Tools, ForestPack and different scripts/plug-ings such as Floorgenerator, Pulse; it is a stage to strengthen the post production process of the images with Photoshop.

Adding complexity

The next project, intended for retail interior design, delves into the workflow of such a project. To this stage is added the complexity of creating day and night lighting, trying to create different moods.

In addition to the optimization of scenes, the management of multiple objects and polygons using scripting tools and modifiers such as Array, Quick atach, among others.

Learning to communicate

The next challenge of the course is the first project of images for architectural competitions. Being effective in communication and getting the best out of the architectural object are the objectives to be achieved.

In this module we delve into powerful tools such as RailClone and Photoshop with matte paiting techniques. It is also interesting to learn about the interpretation of the project brief, in this case it is the Nordic Pavilion (existing project) but the materiality has been changed and a different environment was proposed.

Unique opportunities

The last project of the course, which is also focused on architectural competition, is taught and mentored by a renowned Creative Director of one of the most important studios in the industry. Undoubtedly one of the best opportunities to grow professionally with the feedback of someone who has a very creative and artistic view of the profession. The project is in the process of elaboration, I share with you some preliminary sketches. As an exercise an existing building has been proposed, The Broad museum in Los Angeles.

A little bit more

I would like to share some photos and images that I have been taking for some introductory course challenges on composition and lighting.

This is the way

Being in the final part of the course, with some topics to see as the application of AI in the discipline and animation, it is very gratifying to be sharing and participating in The Rookies with my first portfolio of images made with a lot of work and pouring everything learned during these months of course.

As a general evaluation of this learning process, I can assure that the School- ing course has exceeded my expectations and that it provides more than enough tools to be able to develop works in a professional way. This is the end of a beginning, and there is nothing better than to see that I have found what I was looking for: a community passionate about the art of communicating architecture and growing professionally.
