Patrick Roberts 2024 Protfolio

The ARC project is a sci-fi world building project I've been creating for the past few months used to explore and develop my artistic skills. It mainly focuses on environment concept art but I've been experimenting with things outside of my comfort zone such as UI and graphic design, prop design, creature design and vehicle design.

The project takes place in the distant future where an apocalyptic anomaly has caused the universe to delve into chaos. Stars began to suddenly die out, creatures from the dark corners of the universe spread, planets crumbled and the galaxy filled with blood. As our Sun faded away the Earth to become uninhabitable, forcing humanity to quickly load into a spaceship created by a dark and mysterious company. The ARC became humanity's home.

For this piece I placed the viewer behind glass in an office to make them really feel like a spectator to the scene. someone who is separated by danger by a thin pane of glass.

For decades humans have been desperately trying to come back from the brink of extinction and discover the reason behind the anomaly. With supplies running scarce and tensions growing high, they float through the vast empty space searching for life or any form of supplies. Sometimes they do find life, however they often wish they hadn't. 

Documents and UI used in scene. More subtle story telling elements to further convey this infection that's spreading across the ARC.

Skull Moss

Skull moss is a strange moss-like substance that appeared on the ARC suddenly and threatens the resident's peace and has the potential to threaten the entire ARC. It can infect living creatures of any kind, is incredibly resistant, and causes severe symptoms often leading to death.

Final piece paint over versus the 3D render from using Blender and Photoshop. A similar scene to the last one. I prefer this one. Has more areas of rest and guiding lines that i think helps guide the viewers eye over the piece better.

My first ever weapon design sketched in photoshop, modelled in blender. I tried to make it as practical as possible while still being interesting and sci-fi. I combined a lever-action rifle with a pump-action shotgun.

Another shot of these scene, placing the viewer more in the action. this lower angle giving the people present more power. This was my first angle I did so there's a lot more process to be shown here. There's also close ups of some of  the models i made and put in the scene.

ARC documents

Scouting mission to found planet. This piece is to show how dark and unlivable this new universe is, with strange anomalies running rampant such as blackholes and strange planets covered in blood

Character Designs

Scouts

Robots sent to planets to scout for researchers programmed with high level, human-like AI. The robots are made in a top-secret section of the ARC and use dead humans to base the skeleton and intelligence off.

The scout's original body hides behind their armor and robotics. Seeing their original body or other scouts' bodies is one factor that causes the scouts to go rouge. This rouge state causes them to go haywire and desperately try to kill themselves or each other.

High ranking ARC Project officials that watch the scouts' expeditions, often appearing as holograms
