Hi, I'm Brian, and these two characters are the culmination of my learning experience at Think Tank Training Centre.

This was the first full character I created at Think Tank.  I picked this piece to practice sculpting anatomy, as well as working with XGen in Maya.  I wasn't able to achieve the level of detail I wanted during that semester, so I came back to this character after my mentorship semester at Think Tank to add more details and implement what I had learned throughout my mentorship.

I have always been drawn to fantasy worlds and the characters that inhabit them.  I thought it would be fun to harken back to one of my favourite movies, The Fellowship of the Ring, and model the pose after the scene of Boromir blowing the horn of Gondor.

Side-by-side comparisons of fully-textured, grey-shaded, and wireframe.

This is the character I worked on during my mentorship semester at Think Tank.  Having just worked on a character that required more organic modelling and sculpting, I wanted to practice more hard surface modeling, and the armour on this character gave me that opportunity.  I also really liked the overall composition and colour palette the concept artist had chosen for this character.

The concept image had the character simply holding their helmet but I also wanted to try a version of them wearing the helmet.  I didn't have the necessary knowledge of rigging to drastically change the pose, so I simply had the pilot holding a mysterious glowing egg they have found while exploring a new world.

Some close-up images of the armour.  I had a lot of fun playing around with the textures, adding different decals to the suit, and finding the proper balance of dirt and grunge.

Side-by-side comparisons between fully textured, grey-shaded, wireframe, and an alternative version of the character.
