Round of applause for our sponsors

Hello, I'm presenting some of the projects I've done this year, both personal and school projects for Artfx Schools.

My favourite thing to do is cartoon characters but I wanted to try and get out of my comfort zone to show that I'm capable of adapting myself to different styles.

Joseph

Meet Joseph!

Joseph is one of my most ambitious projects. Even though I'm more attracted to cartoon characters, I wanted to challenge myself this year by making a bit of a realistic character.

So I created Joseph from an xyz texturing basemesh and resculpted him on zbrush to give him his own personality.

First, some sculpt step

I then went into substance painter to take care of the skin texture. I wanted to do something a little less common so I tried adding vitiligo to Joseph's skin.

For the groom I used xgen on Maya, I had already done projects with xgen but never realistically, I discovered a whole new process whether technical or in the lookdev and I discovered that making curly hair is not the easiest process...

After the hair, I was finally able to finalise the lookdev completely.

By doing realistic lookdev I've discovered how precise you have to be and how the smallest value of each parameter can make a big difference. Avoiding the ‘uncanny valley’ effect is complicated and requires you to spend a lot of time on the smallest details.

I use Zbrush for the sculpt, Substance painter for the texturing  and Xgen on Maya for the grooming and Maya Arnold for the lookdev and rendering

Oren's blendshapes

This is Oren, a character I sculpted and textured last year and I decided to take him on again this year to try out making blendshapes, I discovered this new part of the character modeling process that I really enjoyed doing.

The sculpt was based on Luigi Lucarelli's (helloluigi) concept for Keika Lee's animated short film "Oren's Way".

I use Zbrush for the sculpt and Maya for retopology and rendering

Jacques

Say hello to Jacques

Jacques is a sculpt based on a concept by Alvaro Suazo, and I was an instant fan when I saw it.
I love stylish/cartoon concepts and making colourful projects so I was quickly inspired to do it, there's a mix of materials and textures that I found interesting to work with.

I really enjoyed spending time on this project, and had a lot of fun.

I use Zbrush for the sculpt, Substance painter for the texturing  and Maya Arnold for the lookdev and rendering

That's it!
Thank you for taking the time to look at my projects, I hope you enjoyed them :)
