Round of applause for our sponsors

My initial idea was to just have the cliche “guy gets chased by a werewolf”, but as I developed the story and board more, I added more elements to make it interesting. Due to the limitations of time, I didn’t have much time to spend on character designs, but I tried to at least get down to what they might look like. Before boarding the first 5 shots I layout out an orthographic view of the camera layout to get a better understanding of where it was in space.

This project was about working within a given script and learning a new program. I was switching from Clip Studio Paint Ex to Storyboard Pro because of the amount of work I had to do for this board, Clip Studio would be efficient to draw with. Using Storyboard Pro has greatly increased my productivity and will use it in future projects.

When sketching the given character designs, I was thinking about how I could simplify their designs and noting significant features I could draw quickly. For example, Sophie’s headphones were just two cylinders on the side of her head which I could also use to show the direction of her face. In the script it was implied that this was a magical world so when creating the waiter, I wanted to reflect that by making him a demon and not a human.

As I was polishing the rough pass for this sequence, I wanted to change how the dragon came down to Cash and Sophie. It was supposed to be a dramatic scene and having a side view of the dragon coming down then roaring didn’t reflect that. By using more dynamic poses and having the camera engaged with that movement allowed me to achieve a more desired result.

This is just a collection of random animations I’ve done over the years that I thought I would share.
