Hello everyone! My name is Stéphane Combe, and I'm studying 3D at the Artline Institute for 2 years. Here's a project I made especially for the rookie contest. At the end of the page you'll find my previous projects, as well as the one I'm currently working on. I hope you will enjoy my work!

- The Laundry -

I'm delighted to present my project for the rookie competition.

For this competition, I wanted to challenge myself to create a 3D image quickly and speed up my creative processes. To do this, I limited myself to 6 weeks of work at the same time as my regular classes.

My project :

“A woman waiting for her laundry to wash after a hard day's work looking out of the window.”

I wanted to create a laundromat with a sunset ambiance. I was inspired by Japanese laundries when modeling my assets. I especially wanted to push my texture and lighting skills.

Breakdown & Point of  View

I added a few different viewpoints to the scene. Here's a breakdown.

Hair Problem

For the last image, I had a problem with the rendering of my hair. This was the first time I'd done hair, so I tried to do it with cards and alphas, but after several tries and under certain lighting angles, it didn't work as I'd hoped.

I noticed thanks to the AOV that the transmission values of the hair weren't right and repercussed the background in the hair. So I added a black card behind the hair to recover the desired look in compositing. 

Nuke Compositing

My compositing scene mainly recomposes the various AOVs and adds color modifications and additional effects, such as light dust particles.

Zbrush Chara Modeling

To design my character I went into Zbrush to model her. I focused mainly on morphology. Then I did the topology in Maya and projected again in Zbrush to keep as much detail as possible.

For the hair and eyelashes, I chose to make cards with alpha information.

Painter Texture

I used substance Painter to create the different textures in my project. Here are some of the scenes I created during production.

Marvelous Cloth

To create the garments, I used Marvelous software. It was my first time using it, so I had to learn it. I had a lot of fun creating the clothes. I now use it for other projects.

- Graduation Project - 

I'm working on my end-of-year Bachelor project at the Artline Institute. Here's a small preview of my project.

I'm working on a 35-second animation of a violinist. I'm currently finishing my modeling and textures. I still have to finish my animation and finalize my lighting.
