UPFALL - A two-sided story

While escaping from his father's reproaches by entering the attic of his house, Nathan encounters a strange creature hidden in the dark. A being like he has never seen, affected by a gravity opposite to his own, keeping her feet on the ceiling and her head upside down! While a budding friendship binds the two friends and the peaceful days seem to flow ahead of them, the teenager is actually hiding a fear...

"Upfall" is a 2D animated short film that chronicles the doubts of a teenager transitioning into adulthood, as well as the choices and responsibilities that come with it, the attachment to the simple ages of childhood and nostalgia. This point is illustrated by a few symbols, such as, among others, the creature which embodies the naive innocence of thoses bygone years. If this is implied by its behavior, it is also thanks to its design inspired by axolotls, these amphibians known for their neotenic characteristics, maintaining a juvenile form throughout their life.

The main software used was Toon Boom Storyboard Pro for creating the animatic, Toon Boom Harmony for character animation, Adobe Photoshop for drawing the environments and Adobe After Effects for post-production composition.
