Escape the Night Brand Package

"Escape the Night" first premiered on YouTube on June 22, 2016. The show was created by content creator Joey Graceffa, who invited other well-known creators from the platform to participate in a murder mystery escape room production. It was released as part of YouTube Premium's first batch of original content. Each season has a different theme and guests are placed in an era throughout time, where they must escape a live-action "escape room." In each episode, the guests solve puzzles and run from monsters to get closer to "escaping the night." They then vote on who they want to enter the "death challenge," and whoever fails will meet a gruesome death. The remaining "living" guests at the end of the season are the ones to "escape the night."

The original "Escape the Night" title sequence focuses a lot on the story, which has an intense thriller and suspenseful tone. However, my partner, Cami Compeau, and I wanted to focus more on the humor part of this show since that is more of the driving compared to the story. In this remake, there will be a mixture of vector and live-action to show off each character to drive that humor the original sequence is missing while still following the vintage carnival theme that it has.

The total brand package includes the title sequence, social media promos + transitions, bump in/out, digital billboard, credit squeeze, Instagram grid, banner (Netflix Style), and lower third up next. This all comes together to form the final toolkit and parts of the sizzle.

Silent Patient Title Sequence

For this project, I had to create a title sequence for any book I wanted. I chose to do the book "The Silent Patient" as this is one of my favorite books. "The Silent Patient" is by Alex Michaelides, and it is a gripping psychological thriller that follows the story of Alicia Berenson, a famous painter who murders her husband and then stops speaking. This silence leads to her being institutionalized in a secure psychiatric facility, where she remains for the next six years.

The protagonist, Theo Faber, is a psychotherapist who becomes obsessed with Alicia's case and is determined to unravel the mystery behind her silence and understand the events that led to the murder. Despite warnings from his colleagues, Theo takes a job at the psychiatric facility where Alicia is and is hoping to treat her and get her to speak again.

Greek mythology is the core design and inspiration of this title sequence since Alicia paints and compares herself to Alcestis, who was the mythical queen of Thessaly and wife of King Admetus. This title sequence has a lot of symbolism and hidden meanings, using Greek mythology as a metaphor for what is happening in the book.

Dance Video

This project is a dance video of me dancing to the song "Run BTS" by BTS since it was a dance I have wanted to learn for a while. The key visual element is the video of me dancing. There are a bunch of graphical elements, such as the lyrics of the song and some neon glowing shapes. The lyrics appear on the wall in the background behind me and on the ground where I am dancing. The words are in a graffiti-type font, and the visual style is colorful and playful, with a lot of moving parts.

Case 143 Lyric Video

“CASE 143” is primarily a playful and fun track but also taps into the heavy hip-hop sound. It comes from Stay Kids' new album, Maxident. In this new song, Stray Kids dress up as police officers investigating a case while being overwhelmed by the confusing feelings of lovesickness. The music video is also a must-see with it. It has a fun bit of Stray Kids breaking the ‘fourth wall.’

For this lyrics video, the transitions are similar to those of the music video to make that connection. It will also bring in that playfulness that the music video has. Moreover, I used a similar theme of love in my project to the Stray Kids music video so that it matches and doesn't look out of place.

Dear Black Girl

"Dear Black Girl!" is a spoken word poem by Candace Nicholas-Lippman from episode 6 of "Good Trouble." I chose this poem for my visual poetry as it is something very inspirational to me as a young African American woman.

I utilized projection art for this particular project, as I was just starting to experiment with this medium and my desire to delve deeper into its potential. The live actions served as a visual representation of the spoken words, complemented by a blend of typography to emphasize their significance.

Icon x Brand Collaboration

I love Samsung and their z flip phones. I have a z flip, and their z card phone cases were getting popular especially the K-pop ones. I am sure you can see my love for the K-pop band Stray Kids, and they had a collaboration with Samsung, which included some z cards. This inspired me to pick Samsung as the company I wanted to collaborate with for my artist brand.

I first created the design for my Z card in Illustrator before designing the mini animation that would pop up on the small screen in After Effects. I then bought the Z flip 3D model to use in the animation in cinema 4D before compositing all final animations in After Effects.

Experimental Projects

I recently used Unreal Engine for the first time resulting in these projects, and it was a lot of fun. I plan to keep experimenting with this software in the future.

For the first project, we had to create an immersive virtual reality experience using VR headsets with some type of interactivity. I decided to create my ideal landscape, a place where I go to relax and escape from the world. I added interactive elements such as books that you can grab and throw and a speaker that plays music when you pick it up and press the right trigger.

For the second project, I created an immersive environment based on Genshin Impact's region called Inazuma. I added a chest that opens and plays sound effects before fading away when you approach it. I also included a feature where when you get close to the doors of the building, you are transported inside. Once inside, you can explore the decorations and even trigger the gramophone to play music when you get close enough to it.
