Here I share with you my participation in the Rookies 2024. I am very thrilled to present you these projects, which are the result of a lot of learning this last year. It is very meaningful for me and for the development of my career as a 3D artist. I hope you enjoy it!

Hello there! I'm Gerard Feixes, I'm an environment artist, and this is my first year participating in The Rookies. I'm very pleased to show you three projects. The first two being made during the Advanced Master: Environments & Prop Modelling & Texturing for AAA Video games at Voxel School, in Madrid. The last one I made it some time ago on my spare time.

I would like to thank the teachers who guided and encouraged me to ensure these projects turned out as well as possible.

TOOTH  FAIRY

This is the prop I created for the final assignment in the master. I have used different techniques that I have learned and that the teachers have taught us which have been very useful for me to do the prop and that will be useful for the future. I hope you like it!

Details

Texturing is probably the phase I enjoy the most. I like to think about the details and imagine the storytelling that the object brings and trying to portray it with the textures.

Sculpting

This is the high poly sculpt I made in ZBrush. Although in the end I removed some details and damage in order to have more freedom in the texturing phase, it was very useful for me to learn more about the sculpting process and to have a clearer idea when texturing.

These are some renders to show the wireframe and render passes to show the variations in color and roughness.

Chinese Street

This environment was also the project for the final assignment in the master. It is based on a stylized 2D concept and I have tried to recreate it in a more realistic style. I liked the cheerful colours and the setting.

It represents the street of a village located in China, on a hot spring day.

Although I have relied on the Megascans library, most of the assets have been modelled by me.

I have approached the development of the environment as a learning process and I have prioritised the application of different texturing and optimisation techniques rather than a perfect final result, and for that reason I am happy.

Process

OLD CAMPER VAN

This is a personal project I made some time ago to practise, learn and to broaden my knowledge of the 3D art. 

I did it when I came back from France, where I worked in the grape harvest in the summer. We used to live in a camp with tents and vans, and it was from that lifestyle that I was inspired to make this prop.

Details

Here are some detail shots from the van. I filled the van with stickers of music bands, shows and some random stuff I like.
