Avoid being caught by your boss while working smartly during office hours!
All you have to do is to work only when you sense danger approaching.

Not only you have to work smart, but you'll also have to keep your rhythm senses going, or else.

What's a little laughter while you try to survive in this mundane job of yours, right? See if you can catch all the subtle (or not) jokes in this game!

Try to aim for a perfect score and show off to your friends that you have (at least) some rhythmic sense in you :o

This project started off as a requirement for an audio module of the programming course I'm currently studying. We are required to develop a game that is blind-accessible and that we can choose between a game that is fully audio-based (no visuals), or a game where there can also be visuals but will still have to rely on audio to play. Since I've always been a fan of rhythm games, I wanted to challenge myself to develop a game where players will have to tap into their rhythmic sense to play.

The game I chose to reference is Rhythm Heaven series, where players will have to perform certain task according to the beat or cue of the music. Similarly, my idea of the game is also needing the players to perform task according to the cue, but in an office context.

For every stage, I started thinking of the theme within the office first, before I begin doing the art assets. Once I locked down on the theme, I then start with the sketch. During the sketching phase, I planned on the layout of the stage and draw them to make sure the assets are not too big or too small.

The sketch will then be transferred over to Adobe Illustrator, where I will start tracing the sketch so I could achieve clean lines for the assets.

*The style of the sketches is different because the stage 1 sketch was done on Procreate, whereas the 2 other stages are drawn on a Windows PC (because I just bought it and wanted to test the drawing application on it haha).

I honestly did not expect my project to be so difficult to develop.

One of the reasons is because, I would have to code new logic for every stages due to this game idea where every stage has a different gameplay. This essentially mean that I'm almost creating a new game for every stage, which I didn't realise it until the project has started. It was honestly very challenging, due to the nature of dealing with getting the codes to work with the rhythm, and also to work within the timeline given to us.

In hindsight, I'm glad that I took this challenge as I really learnt a lot from this project.

Just for fun, the video below is what I've used to present my game idea to my lecturer.

Assets seen here consist of both the Windows build and Android build. The project was first developed for Windows, which was then ported over to Android platform with some minor tweaks.

Once again, you can visit https://magesinstitute.itch.io/officepunchin if you wish to give this game a try! It's available for both Windows and Android.
