Final VFX Student Reel

Here I have all the best projects of my last year as a vfx student plus my Final Project that I have been working in for the last months. I put all my efforts and love into these crafts, and I think I can say I am proud of them all. Even then, I am not gonna stop learning and improving myself, so be around cause I have a lot more to offer ;).

Please enjoy!

Dune Destroyer

This is the final project I made for my master's degree. My idea was to make a shot were I would be able to make a variaty of little simulation accomplish giving live to the scene. The principal simulation is the pyro explotion but I make sure to do rbd, vellum, particles and more smoke so it doesn´t feel plain. I also made other simulations as oceans, crowds... So that the animation is entertaining to watch.

The last shot uses the velocity from the craft to advect the wind that it drags. At the same time, I used that wind in order to make a simple RBD interaction with the rocks and skulls and in order to get the movement of the plants with vellum. Here my main goal was to get the perfect timing so all the simulation work together.

Desert Rush

I loved the fact of making a desert barricade because I was able to be creative and use assets that I don't normally use and blending it into the desert.

This difference between the objects in aspects as the materials (wood, metal and bone) or the shapes gave the simulation complexity. Also, creating the type of fractures and constraints was interesting since obviously every material and object had a different logic and physics on how they broke and behaved.

The smoke was generated through the speeds of the car's and tiles movement. The main problem here was playing with the dissipation so I could get the look I wanted with a good managing of the PC memory.

Forced entry

The simulation is based on three pyro simulations: two of them generated from the door and one explosion. The challenge in this project was the slow motion because it required a large amount of substeps that increased the baking time.

Then it was all trying to get that perfect lightning to achieve a good contrast with the blue light and the strong fire of the explosion.

Savanna life

In this project, the animal’s fur was divided in different parts so that all of them were simulated in exception of the general part that comprehends the shortest hair. Also, the cheetah model in this case was provided from the school with the animation included.

It was definitely fun to do, and I think the result is just very pretty to see. I aswell put a lot of attention to the enviroment and lightning, since I believe it enhances the result even further.

The assets are all from Quixel and the MattePainting and composition was made in Nuke.
