My first year!

Evelina Palm
by palmvisualisering on 31 May 2024 for Rookie Awards 2024

Hi! My name is Evelina Palm, and I am a first-year student at Yrgo in Gothenburg, Sweden. Curiosity has always taken over, leading me to try out new hobbies and career opportunities until I finally found my calling in architecture and visualization.

URBAN ARCHITECTURE

During the collaboration with Millerhare, we used their models as a foundation to recreate King's Cross Streets in a way that reflects the unique culture, environment, and material choices of Great Britain. By receiving continuous feedback from MillerHare over a period of four weeks, we ensured that every detail was meticulously designed to fit into the overall aesthetic and feel of the place.

Regarding my choice of buildings, I focused on the uniquely shaped apartment building known as "Gasholders." I chose to light the building with side sunlight to create a captivating reflection effect.

For my second image, I kept the same camera angle but created an evening scene during the blue hour. The goal of this image was to create a clear contrast between the warm and cool lighting.

MATTE PAINTING

By using AI, we aimed to create a building/sculpture and develop a suitable environment based on that image using various photographs in Photoshop.

I drew inspiration from the rural landscape of Kivik in SkĂĄne, where the horizon stretches far due to the flat terrain. I also wanted to include some animals to make the image more lively. The sculpture itself is simple in design, which allowed me to focus more on the surrounding environment.

When searching for materials for the project, I chose locations I had personally visited to better visualize the environment. Therefore, I selected a photograph taken at Kävlingeån, which was an obvious choice for me to use as it is from my hometown, making the final result more personal.

THE VILLA

The task involved constructing a villa of choice from @alingsashuspaket in 3Ds Max using DWG files as a basis. The goal was then to apply materials to the house and place it in an attractive environment for marketing purposes.

The facade is made of black wooden planks treated according to the traditional Japanese method Shou Sugi Ban. This process involves burning the wood to create a characteristic surface where the structure of the fire is visible as a layer of charcoal. Using this technique results in a uniquely appealing facade.

A central theme in the design is integrating nature into the building's structure. An example of this is the green roof, where vegetation is used to create a lush surface. By incorporating nature into the building's design, a harmony between humans and nature is achieved.

In my process, you can see how I worked in Photoshop to create a more realistic image of the project.

THE HOTEL

This project was undertaken in groups of three, reflecting the importance of teamwork and collaboration in the 3D/architecture industry. Each group was assigned a different country or city; our focus was on a location in New Zealand, emphasizing the rich Maori culture. We started by researching the local area and Maori traditions to ensure our hotel concept was culturally respectful and authentic.

I had the great honor of creating a calm and harmonious spa for the visitors.

THE CHAIR

The main purpose of the project was to create a realistic model of a chair from scratch, using only images as references. This involved a careful analysis of the chair to understand its shapes and materials. We were also tasked with creating a simple, appealing environment and a studio setup.

The chair I chose for the project was model 213, designed by Thomas Harlev for Farstrup Furniture. This elegant Danish design in teak and black leather exudes timelessness.

PROPERTY MAKEOVER

The task for the project was to find a building in need of renovation and then use its floor plan and images from the listing to visualize the house's potential through our own creativity.

We were also to furnish the home with suitable furniture. I focused on the kitchen and living room as they are the heart and gathering point of the home. I decided to use earthy tones but also add colorful accents to create a more attractive overall look.

ABSTRACTION

I was tasked with analyzing an artwork and reflecting it in my own way. I chose the artwork "The Elephants" by Salvador DalĂ.

I wanted to capture the right color palette and composition to recreate the warm feeling the artwork conveys. What fascinates me about this piece is how the eye is initially drawn to the impressive length of the elephants and then pulled towards the center of the image. I aimed to recreate this tension. I used a ceiling lamp, which I rotated and altered the material to create a sculpture. By keeping the rest of the image in the same hue, the eye is first drawn to them. Then, the other elements in the picture, such as the sofa, stones, and sand, are discovered.
