These artworks are the result of a Concept Art training class I took. The class inspired me to explore new techniques and ideas, such as Creative Thinking, PBR, Kitbash, and Photo Bashing. It was a great experience I wish to share with you. Hope you enjoy my artworks! :)

Character Design

Japanese Mythical Yokai - Jorogumo

Jorogumo is a mythical spider woman yokai who transforms into a seductive human form to lure her prey. She was banished from heaven as a Fallen God. By embodying slyness and cruelty, she becomes a powerful Villain causing trouble in the Mortal World. In darkness, her powers amplify, making her a formidable adversary. The Hero must use the power of sunlight to defeat Jorogumo and restore peace.

Study Progress

At the beginning, I had no clear direction and tried different variety. With the help of my trainer, we decided on a direction combining elements from thumbnails C and D.
After the design is clear, I've polished the Front View. Then, reusing the elements, the Back View is easily done too. Finally, line up both view and the work is done.

Environment Art

Desert Frost: The Last Bastion

A mysterious traveler and his companion eagle traverse a harsh desert, seeking the Frostbind Bastion—a decaying fortress on a floating ice mass, secured by chains to safeguard resources. The traveler mission is to find and bring back vital resources to save his clan. Their journey is one of hope, survival, and discovery.

Study Progress

For the direction, I came up with key words like "desert," "resource," "city," and "artifact" at the beginning. I created some rough thumbnails and further developed them with my trainer. Then, using 3D and PBR, I rendered a scene with simple light and mood as a base. After touching up the base, the work was done.

Kitbash

2 Sets of Assets

In the Kitbash part, I made two sets of assets.

Set 1 is for Environment Art. Originally, the city was going to be set in the scene, but due to time issues, the assets were replaced by Photo Bashing. However, the assets are still usable for other work, so I made an individual category for this set.

 Set 2 is a Sci-fi themed set. I chose this theme because I had never tried making sci-fi buildings before. Also,it was a different workflow compare with Set1. Overall It was a big challenge for me.

Set1 - Medieval Assets

After I sketched the Environment Art, I breakdown the structure piece by piece with the correct scaling. Once the assets were modeled and textured, they were ready to use for any castle-like environment scene.

Set 1 - Experiment and Remake

Few Experiment set were made. After the Assets id ready to use, I remake the Envrionment Art city with similar view.

Remake

Set 2 - Sci-fi City

In this work, I've used Mother Texture to create the assets. By applying plane angle photos to create texture and noises, all the assets share only one texture. This made the modeling process expand into different possibilities.

Conclusion

I'm glad to attend the Rookie Award. Through this project, I learned not just Techniques but Researching and Creative Thinking. The experience helped me improve and change my point of view on the Concept Art workflow. It was a valuable opportunity for my growth.
