"Convictions" is an evening wear collection exploring the complexity of religious convictions and the power they hold over us.

Growing up in christian schools and being raised in church, I learned that whether it's Christianity or Catholicism, both adhere to a strict moral code with little room for exceptions. The Bible, with its stark black-and-white depiction of right and wrong, inspired my reflection on the complexity of morality. With that, traditionally white symbolizes purity and light, while black represents sin and darkness, which is why my collection begins all-white, then transitions into all-black looks creating a deliberate contrast, symbolizing the coexistence of good and evil.

I used CLO3D along with traditional draping and pattern making to make my 5 look physical collection. Throughout my collection, starting pieces through Clo-3D allowed for me to have a foundation for each of my looks and speed up the construction process. My 4th look was made completely on Clo-3D, and I also ran my rendered images through Ai to enhance the final look.

I also drew inspiration from traditional religious elements including cathedrals, stained glass rosaries, and crosses, I wanted to incorporate these symbolic details subtly throughout the collection in a modern way. For example I have beading in all the looks reflecting the rosaries or this dress subtly resembles the silhouette of a cross, the drapery is reminiscent of the robes worn in biblical paintings or stained glass, and the hoods are a nod to traditional nun garb.

My vision for these looks is to portray contrasting convictions, with areas of constriction reflecting the feeling or mindset of being trapped in a set of beliefs and other areas being dramatic and free, representing breaking out and living according to your own beliefs.

"Convictions" intricately navigates the complexities of religious influence. This collection reflects the contrast between constraints imposed by organized religion and the freedom found in personal faith and autonomy.
