Miss Illusion
A repressed office man is pulled into a transformative journey through the enticement of burlesque dance.
Miss Illusion is an animated short film produced by Meryl Studios, a team comprising 20 School of Visual Arts students who collaborated to create the film from start to finish within a 14-week animation workshop.
Directed by Meryl Chan and produced by Angelina Retodo, all artwork for the film was made possible by their hardworking and dedicated classmates.

The color script was a guide in conveying different story beats and the psychological aspect of The Guy's perspective.
There was a lot to figure out about how the character and location designs would interact under different lighting scenarios and color palettes, so these style frames helped us visually plan out how the entire film would look cohesively.
The dance sequence underwent the most stages of change to express The Guy's euphoric state. We focused on capturing The Guy's state of mind, aiming to evoke a sense of magic and disco that reflected his personality, contrasting with the burlesque theme. We wanted to depict the feeling of finding one's own artistic and spiritual self.
