Suits For Swells

 In my formative years, much like any other child, my bedtime routine included a special ritual. Every night, I would ask my father to read me a bedtime story. However, this wasn't your typical bedtime book. Still dressed in his workday suit, he would open up a book filled with facts and images of every type of shark known to man. Picture by picture, he'd read about the breathtaking array of these creatures, providing brief descriptions and facts for each species. Yet, our interaction didn't end with the reading. Instead, it transformed into a journey of discovery and learning. Once he finished reading me the facts, he'd quiz me on each shark and the related information. Little did I know that those quizzes would become the stepping stones of my fascination and affection for the ocean and these amazing creatures.

Growing up in a beach town on the South shore of Massachusetts, I was constantly surrounded by the beach and the ocean. I grew up surfing, boating, and swimming, so the ocean was an integral part of my upbringing. The connection I have with the ocean and its species is profoundly special. It not only brings me immense joy but also offers solace in times of need. It's disheartening that we, as humans, are jeopardizing this precious resource that we should be protecting – whether it's coral, creatures, or water. This needs to change. Through this collection, I aim to illuminate the connection between a surfer and the ocean. This collection is intended to be dedicated not only to my father, who taught me so much about the creatures I love and draw inspiration from but also to the ocean and our actions within it, which serve as my primary muse.

Creating a collection inspired by my love for the ocean, it was essential to make it as eco-conscious as possible. I used dead-stock fabrics, Super 120 suitings, natural indigo dye, and sustainable embellishments to ensure that every piece reflects both my love for the ocean and my commitment to sustainability.

Using CLO for the collection was not only a more eco-conscious method, but it also ensured innovation and enhanced creative exploration. By using other technologies and software like Adobe Suite, I was able to share my collection and portfolio in a way that showcased my abilities at a professional level.
