David Kwon-Animation Reel 2024

Not only did I focus on the quality of the animation, but I also put a lot of effort into structuring each clip in a way that would bring laughter to the audience through fun and wit. I hope that watching my animation clips brings a smile to everyone's face. Thank you!

Facial Acting - 'A washed-up hero'

I expressed the anxiety of a washed-up hero as much as possible through facial expressions and body movements. I focused on showing various psychological states within a short time, emphasizing that people can become aggressive when anxious and restless, but can also become calm at times.

Situation #1 - On the paddle board

Situation #2 - On the beach

Body mechanic - 'Shark! Shark?'

The idea for the body mechanics scene started with the concept of showing the center of gravity both on water and on land, which I thought would be interesting. To depict the situation on water, I referred to numerous videos related to paddleboarding practice. Having paddle boarded frequently as a hobby during the summer, those experiences seemed to greatly aid in completing the body mechanics scene. I structured the animation into two main parts. Additionally, to effectively highlight the body movements in line with the theme of body mechanics, I kept the camera movements minimal, focusing only on following the main character.

In the first situation, the lifeguard on the paddleboard spots a shark, loses balance, and falls. I made an effort to portray the shift in center of gravity as realistically as possible. In the second situation, the lifeguard on the beach spots a girl and, unable to contain his anger, dramatically falls over in an exaggerated manner.

Jump - 'Batgirl and the Puppy'

I wanted to capture the slightly awkward yet adorably determined Batgirl, filled with a sense of mission. To depict the heroic dynamism of Batgirl, I created a sequence where all movements are connected smoothly and swiftly, without any pauses in between. To ensure that the various actions didn't look too similar to each other, I incorporated a range of different jumping scenes, including jumping, grabbing ropes, flipping in the air, landing, forward rolls, hurdling obstacles, and leaping to catch the puppy.

Walking and Running

In walking and running, I focused on creating key poses and smoothly connecting these movements. I paid close attention to the timing of the upper body's spine because even a slight misalignment can affect the movements of the arms, neck, and head. The experience and skills I developed while creating the walking and running clips were immensely helpful in efficiently completing the movements of Shark Girl in the body mechanics scenes.

Weight - 'A boy with four arms'

To convey a sense of weight, I created a scene where a robotic arm lifts weights. Instead of using various objects to represent different weights, I focused on using one object to showcase a range of sensations. However, since the weight conveyed by simply lifting one set of weights may have its limitations, I concentrated on highlighting the difference in weight before and after the assistance of the robotic arm. Additionally, besides expressing weight, I referenced scenes from Japanese 2D animation to provide enjoyment through exaggerated body mechanics for the viewers.
