The Death of Fashion is an evening wear collection that mourns fashion’s past while looking towards fashion’s future. The inspiration started with a Dialogue Between Fashion and Death by Giacomo Leoparti written in 1824. In this Dialogue, Fashion comforts Death and swears they are sisters. This work got me thinking of all the ways fashion and death are connected.

I started my research looking at the past. I researched crinoline fires, poisonings, and factory fires causing the link between fashion and death. As my research continued into the modern world I found that The Death of Fashion is linked to the ready-made ready-to-wear world. Micro trends, overproduction and overconsumption have killed the beauty that fashion once held. My designs evoke a feeling of nostalgia by referencing fashion’s past.

I wanted to add a 6th look to this project using clo. I looked back on my old sketches and research to connect the design to my existing ones.
