Víctor Manuel Quesada Sánchez
by VictorQuesada on 26 May 2024 for Rookie Awards 2024

Hello everyone, I hope you like my reel, I have made it with a lot of effort, love and respect towards the industry that I want to reach. Life takes you on strange paths and at 42 years old I have decided that my path is visual effects. Thank you all for spending a couple of minutes viewing my entry. Hugs

Round of applause for our sponsors

Hello everyone, I am super happy to be able to upload my first VFX composition reel, made at the Animum Creativity Advanced School academy. I've mostly used Nuke software, plus Photoshop and Davinci Resolve.

I introduce myself a little, I am from Alicante (Spain) and after 41 years of life being commercial director in the automotive industry, I realized what I really wanted to do and here I am presenting a super proud Junior's work.

I appreciate the opportunity of the contest, since it takes us to the next level and is a very enriching experience. I hope you like my work.

Hugs for all

In the first shot of my reel, I made a composition eliminating the chroma and giving it depth by integrating the reflection of the main character and integrating a window with its glass to which I added its dirty. The difficulty of this part is in cleaning the alpha when we find hair and parts that were not chroma.

In the last slide you can see how I removed the chroma of one of the main characters

To achieve the camera movement between both main characters, I created the buildings in 3D space and then created a virtual camera that followed the tracked movement of the camera of the main characters to which I added the route through the buildings

In the 3D space is where I inserted 10 layers of fog to provide depth, I made them through noise nodes. Youy can show this in the video reel.

In this part I used the same techniques as those used in the other main character with the exception that in this part I replaced the background with a 100% 3D background.

Finally I wanted to give it a NOIR aesthetic to highlight the drama of the scene by isolating the child's red color in socks and toys.

In my second shot, the difficulty was in the integration of color and timing. Finally we return grain and camera distortion. A very fun shot to make

In my third shot, the difficulty I had was in extracting the alpha properly since it was not filmed on a chroma and the extraction was done by hand with rotoscoping and luminance keyers. Color integration was also a headache. A very attractive but tedious shot. The result is worth the effort

Finally, in the shot, for me it was very important to give realism to the explosions, as well as setting an appropriate timing so that the fire and the explosion made sense.

In my morphing shot the most complicated part was tracking the main character's mouth so that the deformation was correct, as well as adjusting the gridwarp so that it looked natural and real. A terrifying result for a horror shot

Finally, one of the shots I am most proud of and one of the ones where the work looks the least.

This is my shot of beauty, they are very subtle changes with great work behind them. Beauty is found in subtlety

That's my final result of this beauty shot giving back detail.

If you've made it to the end of my entry, I really appreciate your time spent appreciating other people's efforts. You are super invited to give me feedback on my work.

May the best win, that after seeing other entries it could be anyone, super happy with the level in the industry

Hugs for everyone
