Youthful Gaming Memories

Wanting to both challenge myself a little, as well as revisit my youthful years right after finishing college, I went with the GameCube and its controller - having previously modelled a Master System when I was playing around with Blender 2 years ago, which made for good practice at the time since that hardware have less rounded features and is more squarish.

Looking to get some extra practice with texturing wear and tear, I took great care in studying not only my own controller, but also others' that I could find pictures of.

Apart from looking for that worn, natural look on the hardware, I decided to add one of my favorite games from this console generation. This also provided me with a much needed break from the more tedious and time-consuming modelling, as I prepared myself to move on from having finished the controller to start working on the console.

Constructing this scene - which includes also trying to find the right lighting and color tone - was an incredibly fun challenge and I learned a lot from it! I certainly spent a lot more time on adding little details than I had originally planned for, but I'm happy I did.
