Nicolas Paoli - 2024 Showreel

Hi, I'm Nicolas! I have recently specialized in Animation at ESMA.
I will share with you some projects that I made through this year. 

Project 1 : The Fight

This project was made in collaboration with Isabeau Chalvin. I did the animation for Beta (the character in the video) as well as the animation for the cat's tail passing by. 

Our story was as follow: Beta witnesses Alpha's cat falling down the window. When Alpha enters in the room, she sees Beta next to the window and assumes that he pushed her cat. An argument rises between the two, but little do they know that the cat is safe and well and is still wandering in the apartment. 

Project 2 : Your Friend Steve (Short-film)

This project was our first short-film made in group. The Goal was to create a 20 seconds short inspired by Tv programs. Ours was a recreation of talk shows such as 'The tonight show' or 'the Late show' and so on... 

Our Tv host, Steve, is a narcissist guy who loves the fame he gets for his show. Tonight, he invited Pascal, a zombie who is also an actor on the set of 'The Walking Dead'. As Pascal explains what it looks like to work on set, Steve simply ignores him and just shine when the cameras are on him. 

This project was made with Isabeau Chalvin, Salomé Pereira, Maëlys Girouard, Marie Sève, Manon Laporte and Viet Ha Nguyen. 

Project 3 : Wannabe

This project was made in collaboration with Eléonore Hattenberger, Eliot Cottez, Isabeau Chalvin and Léonie Bensaid. 

The point of the exercice was to take on an existing song and then make a singing / dancing animation on top of it. we choose 'Wannabe' by the 'Spice Girls' but we changed the formula a little bit. This time, we created our own boys band made out of 'Leo'. 

This animation was full of challenges as it was the first time we were a group working on the same scene. Plus the dancing part was quite tricky to put in place but we tried our best to overcome all of that.

Project 4 : Entering a room

This project was one of my favorite to make.

It is quite fast and simple, but it was one of the first time I tried adding personality to the character I was animating.  Thanks to it, I discovered that I love polishing details and it is the part where I am having the most fun. Animation really becomes a game for me in this step. 

Project 5 : KDA Dance Cover

To end this article, here is a Dance Cover of one of KDA's song. 

This one particularly challenged me. It was one of the first time I was animating something so dynamic and it was quite tricky to make the movements feel smooth and coherent.
