by Sixelart on 25 May 2024 for Rookie Awards 2024

Hi ! I'm Alexis, a third year art student at Brassart, Nantes, France. This is the first year I'm attempting the Rookie Award and I'm really excited to share some of my works ! I love designing characters, thinking of landscape compositions and doing creature design. I hope you'll like it !

Personnal Character Design

Early sketches

Color Tests

Rendering process

This piece is the concept of an original character. This was the first time I challenged myself on a whole new process with a much longer and precise render part. I really enjoyed it and felt the improvement during the whole time working on it. I'm still really proud of the colors and how it turned out !

Fantasy environment design

Thumbnails

The only thing I knew, is that I wanted to make a digital painting landscape. And when I don't have much more ideas, I like to make a few thumbnails just like here to pick the one that clicks with me.

Rendering process

For this fantasy cityscape concept, I gathered all my favourites inspirations and learned a lot from them.
I didn’t have that much time to finish this piece but I enjoyed every part of the process. I wanted to depict the feeling of a peaceful city boarded by huge ruins of an ancient kind of robots. I wanted to convey the feeling of mystery and peace living together.

Baby dragon

Early skecthes and color tests

Rendering process

For this little guy, I’m proud of the final product, but even more of the process. I was progressing wrong first, and was already at the rendering stage. Then i managed to start it all again and achieve something better, with small, medium and large details. Again, I learned a lot on this tiny dragon on my process and patience.

Guilty Gear, Bridget skin design

First skecthes

Color Tests

Illustration Timelapse

I had the pleasure of designing a skin for the character of Bridget from Guilty Gear. I found the yo-yo style really fun and decided to shape my whole illustration based on this.  Once the concept part done, I wanted the piece to be as colorful and vibrant as it could be, representing such a fun character.  I'm happy with the result and proud with how I managed to deal with the colors.

TMNT in my style

Character sheets

Illustration process

This is my version of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, inspired by Dungeons & Dragons and the whole fantasy theme. I love how their concept turned out and how I manage to make an illustration for one of them. I enjoyed myself designing their shells, and the props I could give them.

I'm happy to post these pieces online for my first attempt to the Rookie award. I wanted to try it out and I think I will submit my portolios here every year with my yearly improvement. I hope you enjoyed my drawings as much as I enjoyed making them ! Thank you and see you next year !
