Hello! My name is Sarah and I'm a 3D artist in Detroit, MI. I love creating 3D art and my focus with my work is to create colorful and fun pieces that feel cozy and sometimes goofy.

Round of applause for our sponsors

Hello! My name is Sarah and I'm a college student in Detroit, MI currently majoring in Game Design! I've only been doing 3D art for a very short amount of time but I really love it and would love to get into the industry soon.

The first thing I want to show is my most recent game environment that I did of a Victorian style entryway. Most of the work I have done recently has been leaning into being more hand painted, but with this project I experimented with using lighting in a more stylized PBR format. I love architecture and interior design so I really wanted to make an original interior environment.
The bulk of this project was done in the texturing stage which is my favorite bit. Substance Painter is my favorite program that  work in so I get carried away with the texturing process a lot because I love to add little details to the point of working on such small bits that it's practically.
One thing I really loved about this project was my foliage because I think it definitely is the best foliage I've done until this point and I really enjoyed making it and getting to texture it in Painter.

Next I want to show a small environment diorama I did in the beginning of the year based on concept art from WonHaeju on ArtStation! I love creating 3D assets based on concept art and this was my first fully hand painted project! This project really solidified my love for Substance Painter and making textures. This was made for an assignment where we were supposed to deliver a game ready asset but I think I got really excited and I decided to do an entire diorama with multiple different game ready assets.

My next thing is a Modular Kit made based off of the game Valorant. Based in Oslo, Norway, the idea behind it was a town inhabited by Kingdom employees that had to evacuate as it turned into a warzone. This would be the attacker's spawn area.
This project helped me really get into Substance Designer which I have been teaching myself the last year but it was also an excuse to try out including more visual storytelling elements in my work which is something I'm still working on.

I want to include some Character Art that I've done too so to start off, here is my Anarchist Squirrel from this past Fall. I wanted to make a little squirrel character because I love squirrels and then I randomly saw a picture of a toothpick crossbow on the internet and I came up with the idea of a little squirrel fighting against landscaping companies and suburban dads to preserve his land. I did this project over the course of three months where I completed two Hero Assets and then the character to interact with them. This was my first time making a character all the way down to rig and pose and it was difficult because of the character's proportions but I just love the little guy and how he turned out.

I was previously kind of afraid of Zbrush and character modeling because the squirrel was difficult to get through for me, but this spring I found out that I actually really like sculpting more humanoid characters so these are some weekly practices I've done that I really enjoyed. None of the concepts are mine so I give full concept credit to Magdalina Dianova, Eslam Aboshady, Justine Cunha, Theresa Larsson, Valorant, and a few others who I can't track down.

The last project I want to show was based on a character and creature prompt where I just had a silhouette in my head that was just a cool female character with a bird companion who flies her around as if she's on a hang glider. I worked a lot on my color harmonies for this project to really make the duo feel tied to each other. Overall, I had a blast with this project, even down to the rigging and posing which I had struggled with in the past and my college actually ended up 3D printing my character for our yearly showcase which was really cool! This piece is fully hand painted and unlit, posed in Maya. I think the texture work on this piece took me about 20 hours if I had to guess.

If you made it this far, THANK YOU! I have loved every part of my journey through 3D art and I feel really lucky to even have the opportunity to apply to contests like these. I'm going to keep working my hardest to make my art better and to earn myself a place in the game industry in the future.
